FINIAN CHUKS & NJOKU MACDONALD OBINNA

There is no gainsaying the truth that Dr. Fabian Ihekweme (Omu) was one of the biggest pillars on which the Governor Hope Uzodinma administration rested in its first year plus in office. He was no doubt the stabilizing force, who in spite of overseeing a novel Ministry Of Foreign & International Affairs, was the shining light in Uzodimma’s first 12-16months in office.

Omu so worked for the emergence of Governor Hope Uzodinma and the stabilization of his Government such that he was almost declared wanted by the opposition party in the state and several other people, who felt he stepped on their toes. Omu so much worked for the success of the Uzodimma’s administration in spite of the very obvious controversies surrounding its emergence.

Dr. Fabian Ihekweme is a firm believer in the admonition that you “Don’t let anyone’s ignorance, hate, drama or negativity stop you from being the best person you can be”. Throughout his stay in Uzodimma’s cabinet, he was guided by this beautiful admonition especially against the ranting and shameless show of ignorance exhibited by some overzealous politicians in Imo State.

It is only the blind, cynic or someone nursing residual hatred against Omu that would feign ignorance of the very giant strides he recorded from the very first day he assumed duties in the Share Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma, as Pioneer Commissioner in a Ministry that is not only virgin but novel.

Even though Omu, as a Commissioner, was first and foremost a servant to Ndi Imo, he is a firm believer in his roots and where he is coming from. Perhaps, it is this belief that has made him not only an employer of labour for Ndi Obowo, but an employment enabler for a good number of Obowo youths.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is on record that a good number of Obowians received monthly allowance from the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Foreign/International Affairs. This is in addition to a good number of Obowians, who were officially documented as staff of the Ministry, and a number of other youths of Obowo origin, who he facilitated their employments in other Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Imo State.

Those who follow political developments in Imo State know very well that Dr. Fabian Ihekweme contributed immensely in changing the narrative in Imo State for the better. As a very loyal employee of Governor Uzodimma, Dr. Ihekweme through his activities in the Ministry of Foreign/International Affairs contributed to the actualization of the governor’s programmes and policies. He was one of the super Commissioners and a very dependable employee of the governor then.

When Governor Hope Uzodinma dissolved his cabinet sometime last year, not a few people hoped that Dr. Fabian Ihekweme would be returned as a Commissioner going by his loyalty and the very obvious impact he made as a pioneer cabinet member of the administration in such a very short time he midwifed and supervised the take-off of the new Ministry of Foreign & International Affairs.

In his stint in the Hope Uzodinma Executive Council, Omu made the new Ministry of Foreign/International Affairs a very active, boisterous, result-oriented ministry, turning himself and the Ministry into brands envied by others. He proved that he knows what governance means and brought this to bear in his day-to-day running of the new ministry.

Described as a leader with the milk of human kindness, who prefers to play by the rules, Dr. Ihekweme’s philanthropic and generous heart cannot be faulted. And this is one virtue that has endeared him to so many people that are today asking him to play actively in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

As an old and experienced leader, Omu strongly believes that power comes from God and belongs to the people. For this reason, he has always diligently and sacrificially pitched tent with the masses. Little wonder today, the good people of Obowo and indeed progressive-minded Imo people are rooting for Dr. Fabian Ihekweme and where he’s pitching his tent.

Our people say that “Ona awu etoo nwanyi akidi, ya agwota ozo”. Omu deserves our support and encouragement to do more. Wherever he decides to go today in advancement of his political career, we are ready to follow him and provide him that support he needs. He has proven in so short a time that he is a patriotic and proud Obowo son ready to develop both man and society.

We must rally round this great politician.
