Ijegun Pipeline Explosion: Senator Adeola Pledges To Champion Finding Solution To Vandalism

Posted on July 7, 2019

Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos West) has promised constituents that he will champion the search for a lasting solution to pipeline vandalisation resulting in explosion with attendant loss of lives and properties on the floor of the Senate.

The senator made the pledge over the weekend when he paid an inspection visit to the areas devastated by the Ijegun pipeline explosion which led to the death of two persons, destruction of houses, schools and goods worth hundreds of million Naira.

Senator Adeola who was accompanied on the visit by Chief (Mrs.) Morenike Adesina William, the chairperson of Igando-Ikotun LCDA and Hon. Kunle Sanyanolu-Olowoepo, the chairman of Egbe-Idimu LCDA, stated that the incidence of pipeline explosion resulting in regrettable loss of lives and properties in the Senatorial District is unacceptable and cannot be left without sustainable solution to protect the citizens residing around the pipelines.

“I want to assure my constituents the Federal Government, the Lagos State Government and I will not leave the people of Ijegun alone in their time of distress from no fault of theirs but the nefarious and illegal activities of oil thieves. This is the second time in a row that this ugly incident is occurring with one recently at Jankande- Isolo Road. It must be place at the front burner for solution” he stated.

Senator Adeola as a first step towards finding a lasting solution promised to bring a motion on the floor of the Senate on the incident adding that diligent investigation of the incident would hopefully bring perpetrators to book to serve as deterrent to prospective oil thieves.

“I want to call on members of the community in areas where pipelines are located to be vigilant about activities of anyone around the vicinity of the pipelines and report any suspicion to the authorities as well as desist from scooping petroleum products left behind from ruptured pipelines” he stated.
