MICHAEL AKINOLA

The entire youths of Ijegun Community in the outskirts of Lagos, under the umbrella of  Ijegun Youth Forum, comprising about 75% of the entire Ijegun population has appealed to His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to change his earlier position not to continue work on Ijegun-Ijedodo-Iba Road because some people did not want the road project constructed over the demolition of houses and sundry matters.

In a letter to the Governor, Ijegun Youth Forum said,”Your Excellency, the entire youth of the community hereby unequivocally state as follows:
1. That the road project because of the attendant benefits should not be allowed to be taken away from the community.

2. Taking away the project from the planned Government route will be depriving the entire community of anticipated social and economic development which will in turn deprive the youths of positive engagements amongst other things.

3. The affected protest from the Community is from very few affected people, who are in the minority and in the opposing political party, PDP, and they constitute little or no electoral values as the youths of the community.

4. The proposed road project, which majority of the people of Ijegun and other affected communities had been anticipating the commencement, will be a bedrock of series of developments and strategic promotion of the well being of the people across communities.

5. Furthermore, the cancellation of the road project as proposed will deprive millions of people in affected communities the dividends of democracy promised by our amiable and hardworking Governor over the interest of very few people in the community.

6. The Road Project in the community especially Ijegun will provide a sense of belonging to we the Youths of the Community apart from attendant empowerment and removal of Youths restiveness in line with Mr. Governor’s promise to Youths in Lagos State.

Based on the above few reasons out of so many, we the entire Youths of Ijegun Community, hereby pray and solicit for the attention of our people loving Governor in the following areas:

a. The Ijegun-Ijedodo-Abule Ado Road project should commence without further delay.

b. Entire Ijegun Youths will support the contractor and take responsibility for the project.

c. That the affected buildings on the Road Right of Way be compensated as promised by Government representatives.

While we look forward to the commencement of the project based on the fact that this administration is people oriented with listening ears, we the Youths of Ijegun promised our unalloyed support for Government projects in our Community.

Yours In service,
Pastor Oluwaseun Alfred,
President,
