Ikeja Council Boss, Comrade Dauda Attends Nigeria Data Protection Commission Programme

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Wednesday, 15th October, 2025, attended the official unveiling of the Yoruba Version of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, organized by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in partnership with META, and hosted at the Ikeja Local Government Hall.

The event, which marked a significant step towards inclusive digital literacy and public awareness on data protection, had in attendance eminent personalities including traditional rulers led by His Royal Majesty, the Alara of Ara Kingdom, as well as religious and community leaders representing the League of Imams, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Community Development Committee (CDC).

The Iyaloja of Computer Village and the Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) were also present, alongside other stakeholders in the digital and community development sectors.

Delivering his welcome address, Comrade Dauda expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission for choosing Ikeja as the venue to launch its nationwide awareness programme. He noted that the initiative aligns with the I.K.E.J.A. Agenda of promoting innovation, knowledge, and responsible governance.

The National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, commended the efforts of Ikeja Local Government for hosting the programme, while Prof. Adewale Olawoyin, who served as the facilitator, enlightened participants on the importance of data protection and the need for citizens to understand their rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

The unveiling of the Yoruba Version of the Act is expected to deepen understanding and compliance at the grassroots level, ensuring that the message of data privacy reaches all Nigerians in their native language.
