In line with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of taking health care to the grassroots, the Ministry of Health in conjunction with Ikeja Local Government, Onigbongbo LCDA, and Ojodu LCDA are hosting the Eko Health Mission at the Youth Sports Centre – Oluwaleyimu Street, Ikeja.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Eko Health Mission offers the people free hypertension screening, diabetes screening, eye screening, antenatal care, dental care, reproductive health care, HIV counselling/testing, general medical consultation and treatment of common ailments.
Doctors and other medical practitioners will be on ground with mobile clinics and ambulances to diagnose, counsel and treat people from April 4th – April 6th.
The initiative was in fulfillment of the promise made by Governor Ambode that free medical care will be brought to the people across Lagos State irrespective of party affiliations. This health mission is also targeted to address the health needs of underserved areas and people who cannot afford comprehensive care in the hospitals or may not have the opportunity because of work or business activities.
In a chat with P.M.EXPRESS, the Sole Administrator of Ikeja Local Government, Engr. Abiodun Taiwo thanked the governor for making the impact of governance felt by the people at the grassroots by initiating programmes that affect the people directly.
Hon. Shamshideen Oloyede Akerele, the Sole Administrator of Onigbongbo LCDA in his remark said the gesture was a great one because most of our people do not make out time for medical checks and only go to the hospitals when health conditions have deteriorated.
In her own reaction, Chief Mrs Olusola Kokumo, the Sole Administrator of Ojodu LCDA also commended the governor and said her Council made extra effort to sensitize and mobilise people because of the importance of the programme to the welfare of the people.
Alhaji Sulukhaleen Osinberu who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS on behalf of the Community Development Associations thanked the Sole Administrators of the three Councils for complementing the effort of the governor to make sure people got free tests, treatment, medicated glasses and drugs.
Some residents openly expressed their joy and prayed for the success of Governor Ambode’s administration.
