Ikeja LGA Mobilises Residents For August Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

Posted on August 28, 2026

Ikeja Local Government has called on residents, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to come out en masse for the Lagos State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The exercise will hold from 6:30am to 8:30am across all communities and streets within the local government.

In a statement, the Council said the monthly sanitation is part of its sustained commitment to promoting a clean, healthy and environmentally friendly Ikeja.

Residents are encouraged to use the two-hour period to sweep and clean their surroundings, clear drainages, properly dispose of waste, and participate in community sanitation activities in their respective areas.

The Council urged market traders, transport operators and business owners to also comply by cleaning the frontages of their shops and business premises during the exercise.

The Council noted that regular environmental sanitation is critical to preventing disease outbreaks, flooding, and other environmental hazards, especially as the rainy season continues.

“A cleaner environment contributes significantly to public health, safety and the overall quality of life,” the statement said.

“We therefore urge all residents to embrace the exercise as a collective responsibility. When our streets, markets and homes are clean, Ikeja becomes safer and more livable for everyone.”

In line with Lagos State guidelines, there will be restriction of movement for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic between 6:30am and 8:30am, except for those on essential services.

Security agencies and environmental health officers will be deployed to monitor compliance across the LGA.

The Council concluded with its campaign slogan:
“A Clean Ikeja, A Healthy Ikeja, A Better Ikeja.”
