AN ADDRESS TO IMO YOUTHS BY RT. HON. AMARACHI CHYNA IWUANYANWU, DEPUTY SPEAKER, IMO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

My fellow Imo youths, tomorrow morning, the Presidential Air Force Jet 1 shall land at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport and, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, shall alight with smiles, bringing good tidings from the seat of power to Imolites, especially, and Ndigbo in general.

This presidential visit is epochal in different dimensions.

Firstly, this is the first time in the last twelve years that we will be hosting the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, solely on the purpose of of work rather than election campaign or any other social or extra-administrative reasons. This is to say that for the first time in twelve years, the Nigerian seat of power is fully relocating to Imo State, albeit, for just a day. The far-reaching significances of this cannot be overemphasized.

In keeping faith with the confidence reposed in him by Imo people, the governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, shall be using the occasion of the President’s visit to unveil various laudable and people oriented projects, and making same available to Imo people for their use and enjoyment. These projects are of great quality, enormous economic significance, infrastructurally revolutionary and socially unprecedented. You will agree with me that beyond every other significance, Imo will be in the news for the right reasons, as these signature projects, are watersheds on our development and economic aspiration as a State.

Ndigbo have been crying, and justly, too, over the huge infrastructure gap and decadence in the Southeast as well, over the apparent inadequacy or lack of, federal presence. This outcry, even though, not immediately addressed, will certainly be getting reasonable attention with this Presidential visitation to Imo State, as the President has assured on his willingness to bring the Federal Government to partner with our dear State on critical and strategic areas.

This visit shall afford the President the opportunity to review, first-hand, the security and infrastructural issues that our State has had to contend with, and his command on improving military/police civilian relationships as well as expediting action on several Federal Government abandoned projects across the State and in the Southeast is expected.

Above all, we shall be having a citizens’ interaction with the President on several issues. The President has made clear his willingness to listen to us and find ways to address some of our most pressing complaints.

Umu Ntorobia ibem, this is certainly not an event you would want to miss out on, no matter your schedules. This is an opportunity to be part of history and I am sure you wouldn’t want to miss out on it.

I can assure you that Imo is safe and adequate security has been provided for your safety and those of everyone who is in Imo State. Imo youths are peace loving people I am confident of the logistics that have been put in place for a a hitch-free hosting of our dear President. This is our time, and we must do our best to seize the opportunity to assert our impact and our relevance in the scheme of things.

Looking forward to seeing you identifying with the progress and prosperity of our dear State, which this presidential visit partly represents.

I am yours sincerely,
Rt. Hon. Sir Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu
Deputy Speaker,
Imo State House of Assembly.
