Kogi State is set to witness mother of all protest in recent time as some people under the aegis of Ebira Youths Congress  (EYC) is set to stage a peaceful protest to tell the world about the the precarious state of insecurity in Ebiraland.

The EYC said in a statement made available to PM EXPRESS that the 1,000 man procession/protest will start at the secretariat of Okene Local Government by 8am with a press conference and prayer session, while all the participants have been informed to dress in all black.

According to the President General (PG) of the EYC, Baba Abdulrazak, the youths are protesting the spate of insecurity that has rocked the entire Ebiraland in the last few months with scores of lives being lost in the process.

PG Abdulrazak said: “As a people, it is no more news that our land is under siege as our freedom is being stolen away, our dignity degraded and the sanctity of our lives eroded by some negative forces that have continually kidnapped us, with many victims sent to their untimely graves in the process.

“Tragically, our land has almost acquired the despicable status of being the most dreaded and precarious place in the country. The socio-economic implications of this heart wrecking development is far reaching. We know them all.

Some may wish to ask ‘what is the government doing?’ But, conversely, what are we, as a people, doing? Need we remind ourselves that inactions of the good men are all needed for evil to thrive? If all we still do is to groan and lament, and in most cases, simplistically conclude “let us continue to pray”, then our journey has not started!

“Yes, prayer is critical. But in addition to our prayers, we must act. And the time to act is since overdue but, surely, not too late. We do not even know these criminals let alone confronting them, but we can draw adequate government’s attention and that of the world to our plight. We must dare to question those who prey on us with impunity.”

According to the EYC Secretary General, Comrade Ondeku Momoh Jimoh, “the time to salvage Ebiraland from the jaws of these evil forces is now.”
