A traditional leader of Ndigbo in Lagos State, Eze Chika Nwokedi, has explained to Ndigbo that it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prerogative to appoint Olatunji Disu as the new Acting Inspector General of Police.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Eze Nwokedi stated this in Lagos during an interview with the press on the State of the Nation.
He noted that there has been negative comments by some Ndigbo that President Tinubu sidelined an Igbo man, DIG Frank Mba and appointed his kinsman, Olatunji Disu as the new Acting IGP.
Eze Nwokedi, also known as Eze Okpoko of Obodoukwu town in Imo State, stated that it is the prerogative of the president to appoint the IGP and he should not be expected to appoint a person he does not know too well to occupy such a sensitive position as the IGP.
He explained that the Acting IGP, Mr. Disu, was President Tinubu’s ADC when he was Governor of Lagos State and he trusted him before he decided to give him such a position.
“Are you expecting President Tinubu to appoint an alien as the IGP? It is not possible as even Governors don’t want Ndigbo as Commissioners of Police and ADC in their States and you want Tinubu to appoint an Igbo man as the IGP” he said.
Nwokedi urged Ndigbo to go back home and put their houses in order and ask the Southeast Governors to engage their Igbo security personnel as their Commissioners and ADC before they will be talking of being marginalized in the Nigerian Police.
“When you check the Southeast Governors Police ADC, most of them are not of the Igbo extraction. And if the Governors cannot trust Ndigbo as their ADC, how do you expect other tribes to trust them to give an Igbo man such a sensitive position as the IGP?”
He commended President Tinubu for his efforts to rebuild Nigeria and asked all Nigerians to support him to move the country forward.
Nwokedi said,”Leadership is not easy. All we need to do is the pray and support President Tinubu to achieve the vision of rebuilding our economy, security and give new directions for positive developments in Nigeria”.
On the Acting IGP, Mr. Disu, Nwokedi explained that he had known him over the years as one possessing the capacity, and has tested and confirmed that he is a thorough professional senior Police Officer.
He however, explained that to whoever much is given,  much is expected. He advised him to tackle the issue of corruption within the Nigeria Police and sanitize the entire Police Force.
Nwokedi stated that there were so many bad eggs in the Nigeria Police Force and he should wipe them out and motivate the good officers in order to position the Nigeria Police as one of the best in the world.
