Lady, 33, Docked Over Threat To Post Gay Video Of Seun Anikulapo Kuti On Social Media

A 33-year old lady, Neya Egwatu has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly demanding for ransom over alleged threats to post gay video clips of top musician, Seun Anikulapo Kuti, on social media.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Police operatives from the Commissioner of Police Tactical team of the Lagos State Command have tracked and charged her for blackmail and cyberbullying under the Criminal Law of the State.
The incident happened on 7th October, 2025 at Lekki area of Lagos, while the suspect was tracked and arrested by the Police led by SP Banti Adamu.
According to the Police, the suspect, Neya, allegedly sent message through her whatsapp account registered with phone no: 08033649098 and her snap chat handle using her iPhone 14 promax with International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) 354106773743999 to one Seun Anikulapc’ Kuti ‘m’ which were grossly offensive ard menacing.
The matter was reported to the Police. The suspect was arrested and detained at the Command to provide evidence. As she was unable to do so, she was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Neya Egwatu on the 7th day of October, 2025, at about 0600hrs, at Lekki area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did intentionally send a message through your whatsapp account registered with phone no: 08033649098 and your snap chat handle using your iPhone 14 promax with International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) 354106773743999 to one Seun Anikulapo’ Kuti ‘m’, which were grossly offensive ard menacing knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 24(1)(A) and punishable under Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Neya Egwatu ‘f, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did bully, threaten, harass and demanded for a ransom with Zenith Bank account number 1015910588 Bellaregina Luxury from one Seun Anikulapo Kuti ‘m’ to avod you posting his gay video online knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 24(2)(a)(b) of the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Neya Egwatu ‘f’, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did intimidate and annoy one Seun Anikulapo Kuti ‘m’ by threatening to post or expose his gay video on social media if he fails to send money into your Zenith Bar k account number 1015910588 Bellaregina Luxury and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 56(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
