Lady, 44, Docked For Swindling Princess Of N2m With Money Transfer Scam

A lady, Owoade Morenike, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling Princess Helen Momoh to the tune of N2m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd September, 2025, at Abaranje Road, Ikotun, Lagos..
According to the Police, the suspect told the complainant that she had a cash of the sum of N2m and the complainant needed cash for an undisclosed business transaction.
The complainant transferred the money to the suspect’s account with the agreement that she will bring the cash to the complainant which never happened.
According to the Police, after the suspect received the money, she bolted away, disconnected every communication she had with the complainant and went into hiding.
The matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct against the complainant.
While being interrogated, the suspect admitted to have received the money and told the Police that she has spent the money as such will not be able to refund it.
The Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Owoade Morenike ‘F’ on the 23 of September, 2025 at Abaranje Road, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did deceive one PRINCESS HELEN MOMOH ‘F’ to transfer the sum of N2,000,000.00 (two million Naira) to you under the pretence of helping her to change it to raw cash, a presentation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Owoade Morenike, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N2,000,000.00 (two million Naira, property of one PRINCESS HELEN MOMOH ‘F’ by converting same to your own use without her consent or approval and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.R Ogunkoyede, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
