For over 75 years, the Lagos Motor Boat Club has been a beacon of boating culture and community, becoming a part of Nigerian history.

The member-only prestigious Club has remained at the heart of nautical excellence, fostering generation to generation of boating enthusiasts, creating lifelong friendships and loyalties. Housed in a white colonial-era building on the bustling Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos and boasting a view of the serene lagoon where the rich and famous yachts are moored, bobbing up and down, the club has members from some of Lagos’ most prominent families. Suffice to say that the membership is exclusive and privileged.

On January 29, the Club had a wave of an unforgettable 75th anniversary during a dockside party where members and some privileged dignitaries raised glasses to toast and danced the night away in celebration of their milestone. While still basking in the euphoria of that landmark celebration, it was another gathering of the eagles on Sunday February 9, as the elite club welcomed her newest honorary members in person of His Royal Highness Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri and His Royal Highness Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi. At the exclusive ceremony, the Club management committee treated guests to an evening filled with melodies, laughter, and warmth of festive cheers. During the ceremony, the club also extended a warm welcome to other distinguished individuals to join the two notable monarchs as honorary members in persons of tech entrepreneur Shola Akinlade and world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua to join the LMBC family.

Spotlight learnt that honorary membership of the Lagos Motor Boat Club is for just 12 months but being eligible may be extended from time to time. The honorary members are not expected to pay neither member fees nor any subscription, but they shall be subject to all other rules and bye-laws of the Club.
