Lagos CP Burns N400m Drug Exhibits

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, on Wednesday led other security agencies in the public burning of drug exhibits recovered by the police in the cause of raids of criminal hideout and through other sources based on intelligence.
While addressing journalists at the dump site, the CP recalled his previous promise of a crime free Lagos. He said,”You will recall when I took office as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, I stated clearly that I will fight crime and criminality through different fronts. The CP stated that there’s a close lexus between crime and drugs and that the two strongest elements for the commission of a crime is the availability of arms and drugs; that is why he has taken very seriously the fight against drug sales and drug use proliferation in the city.
The destruction of the hard drugs which took place at the Elepe/Jinti dumpsite in Ikorodu, Lagos was also witnessed by Lagos State Government, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Militry and the Civil Defense Corp. The CP said that he went into partnership with other security agencies and the State Government who were well represented at the dumpsite. This synergy has favoured between January, 2018 till date and they were able to recover the following category of drugs Indian hemps, cocaine, codeine, Tramadol and all kinds of psycho active substances. The estimated street value of the drugs is over 400 million Naira, he said.

Imohimi who led the destruction said they decided to burn the drugs because of volume which cannot be contained in their stores and exhibit rooms. The Command then decided to approach the court for a permission to publicly destroy the substances so that members of the public could see the substances. He noted finally that the step is in tandem with his vision to protect lives of Lagos residents.
