Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival: A Celebration Of Mobile Filmmaking Ingenuity

The Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival, organized by Kayode Bakerr, concluded successfully on 13th September, 2024, at the Silverbird Galleria.

This two-day event brought together a diverse group of filmmakers, content creators, and industry professionals to showcase their talents, learn from each other, and celebrate the art of mobile filmmaking.

“Our aim was to create a platform where filmmakers can push the boundaries of mobile filmmaking and showcase their creativity,” said Kayode Bakerr, Convener of the Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival (LISFF).

Day one featured a showcase of impressive short films shot entirely on smartphones, highlighting the innovative capabilities of mobile devices. The Film Lab Africa Initiative of the British Council also presented ten grant-winning microfilms. Olasunkannmi Adebayo, Principal Partner of Filmlab Africa Project, emphasized the importance of filmmaking as a powerful tool for storytelling, education, and entertainment.

Day two featured a panel discussion moderated by Adaoha Njemanze, where industry experts shared their insights on filmmaking and content creation. John Njamah stressed the importance of intentional storytelling, while Check Edgar highlighted the role of social media in building a global audience. Shola Thompson emphasized the value of collaboration in the Nollywood industry, urging filmmakers to work together for mutual growth.

Moses Agochukwu, head of operations, Silverbird Film Distribution, encouraged aspiring filmmakers to be passionate about their craft and understand their target market. He emphasized the importance of exploring all available opportunities, regardless of one’s current level of experience.

The festival’s entertainment segment was a highlight, featuring captivating performances by Boidamzy, Lordaugbeatbox, and Tomi Owo. The hosts, Victory Wilson and Tolu Ajibola kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the event.

The Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival was a resounding success, inspiring and motivating attendees. The event provided a valuable platform for filmmakers and content creators to connect, learn, and grow. With its rich content, networking opportunities, and electrifying performances, the festival has set the stage for future innovations in the industry.
