The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal has warned those who may want to use fireworks popularly known as ‘knockout’ during this festive period to avoid doing so.
The CP has therefore ordered the police to arrest any person found with such products using them to disturb the members of the public.
Edgal gave the warning during the parade of suspects at the State Command, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that he has directed the officers through their DPOs and Area Commanders to close any shop and arrest any shop owner discovered dealing on such products across the state.
He also directed the arrest any person found to be in possession of such and have them prosecuted. The police boss said that the decision was in line with the policy and strategy to ensure that lives and properties were protected in the state.
The CP commended the members of the public for their support, encouragement and partnership with the police which he said had led to the success story on security in the state. He said the Command wishes to appeal to the good people of Lagos to be vigilant at all times as all hands must be on deck to make the state safe and secure.
It is now left for the public to comply or flout the directives of the police boss. It was confirmed that some businessmen have illegally imported large quantities of the products into the country and they were already in the Lagos market.
Some of the traders who spoke to P.M. EXPRESS said it was not every directives from the police that everyone will comply with.
A trader simply known as Gabriel said the products were seasonal affairs and once the season was over, they will disappear from the markets. Some of the traders said they had already stocked the products and were gradually selling them to the public.
