The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has declared that it will soon commence enforcement to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease on all construction sites in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, all construction sites in the State are urged to ensure that they do not have more than 20 workers on site every day.The Commissioner declared that provision must be made for hand-washing, in addition to the use of alcohol-based sanitisers for workers and visitors alike, stressing that it is equally important that all construction workers observe social distancing of not less two metres.

According to him, construction sites are expected to maintain good hygiene at all times for the safety and wellbeing of their workers and visitors, saying that “all construction workers are also required to sanitise themselves before and after their daily schedule on the site”. Salako, therefore, called for voluntary compliance with the guidelines in the interest of the public and urged residents to team up with the Government in curbing the spread of the virus in Lagos State by reporting to the Ministry or its Agencies any construction site that fails to comply with the guidelines. He emphasised that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, would not hesitate to immediately shut any construction site found violating its directives.
