Lagos West: Senator Solomon Adeola Facilitates Training Of 1000 Graduates In 5 ICT Courses, Gives Out Laptops

The lawmaker representing Lagos West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, in collaboration with Engineering Materials Development Institute (EMDI), has facilitated the training of 1000 graduates in 5 Internationallly recognised ICT courses.

The training programme, which lasted for the duration of 2 – 7 weeks, was rounded up with a graduation ceremony, presentation of certificates and empowerment of graduands, on Monday, 20th June, 2022, at Times Square Event Centre, 27 Ajao Road, off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.

The programme commenced formally with the National Anthem, opening prayer by one of the graduands and official introduction by the Lead Liaison officer.

This was followed by remarks by Engr. Opeola, the representative of the Executive Director of Engineering Materials Development Institute (EMDI). Opeola heaped praises on Senator Adeola for collaborating with the institute to empower his constituents. He charged the graduands to maximize the opportunity the training has afforded to be self reliant and relevant in the society.

The graduands, represented by Fasina Oluwatobi, Hungbo Moses Abiodun, Ishola Shehu, Obasi Jennifer and Kolawole Samuel, were given the opportunity to express their unreserved appreciation to Senator Adeola for impacting their lives and empowering them. They assured the Distinguished Senator that they will make him proud in the days ahead. The beneficiaries equally highlighted their likely challenge going forward and asked the lawmaker to look into those areas.

Mr. Tim Akano, who stood in for New Horizon, the ICT firm which conducted the training, in his brief remarks, praised the Distinguished Senator, Solomon Adeola, for standing out in Africa as the first Senator to train his young Constituents, pay for their Professional International examination and at the same time empower them with the requisite tools. 
Before he ended his remarks, Mr. Tim, on behalf of New Horizon presented an award to the respected lawmaker and equally announced the best graduating participants with the accompanying prizes.

In his address at the event, the Chief Host and the Chairman of Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Adeola said, “I am delighted to witness this event targeted at Human Resource Development and employment generation for youth in my Senatorial District, Lagos West. I am happy that my constituents are beneficiaries of this initiatives facilitated by me in the important area of Information, Communication and Technology, ICT”. 

“As part of my representative functions to my constituents over the years, I have made it of paramount importance that youth in my constituency are given requisite skills to established them in gainful self-employment. Towards this end, many trainings for skill acquisition, entrepreneurship development and ICT as well as empowerment with equipment had taken place in the past with thousands of beneficiaries that are now gainfully employed. My facilitations for ICT training dates back to my years as a state legislator representing Alimosho State Constituency 2. I sponsored many youths for trainings in ICT at the reputable NIIT with certification that led to engagement by corporate organizations and other gainful self-employment.”

“The current training, which involves over about 1000 graduates who took competitive online test to qualify out of over 5000 that applied, is aimed at empowering constituents spread across all the 10 LGAs of Lagos West Senatorial District. The certification in the various programmes are internationally recognized and with potentials for international employment as well as usefulness in generating self- employment.”

“In association with Engineering Materials Development Institute(EMDI), I facilitated the training of the successful graduates for a period spanning 7- weeks in 5 different courses namely: (1) Microsoft Azure Administrator (2) Microsoft Power BI (3) Basic and Advance Excel (4) Graphic Design, and (5) Digital Marketing. At the end of their courses, trainees are being given Training Certificates and International Professional Certification for candidates who passed their mock examination as well as brand new laptops.”

“Let me state that in the remaining period of my service as Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, I will continue to deliver effective representation to my constituents in all walks of life with resources available for the largest Senatorial District in Nigeria in terms of population inclusive of similar trainings and skills acquisition. I congratulate all the beneficiaries of this programme and urge them to diligently apply the skills learnt in course of their training for their socio-economic advancement in the society” Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi said.

The respected legislator assured Lagos West Constituents of delivering more dividends of democracy before his eventual switch to Ogun West Senatorial District. He promised that another batch of 1000 Graduates will be put together soon. Adeola equally used the opportunity to address the concerns earlier raised by some of the graduands, promising that they will all be attended to.

Some of the dignitaries present, which included the Executive Chairman of Alimosho LGA, Hon Jelili, representative of Mr. Tunbosun Alake (from the Ministry of Science and Technology), and Dr. Ganiu Ipaye, while pouring encomiums on Senator Adeola, all joined voices in charging the graduands to make the most of the opportunity presented them by the distinguished lawmaker.

Highpoints of the event were the presentation of certificates to the graduands and the empowerment with brand new laptops, which the Distinguished Senator supervised himself in order to ensure that all the graduands got theirs.

    Very impressive, I was there live. One aspect of the program that you didn’t report was that the Senator was on ground to monitor the distribution himself, he was there throughout. We were all pleasantly surprised. God bless him richly
