Posted on August 23, 2021

The General Manager, Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA), Tpl. Daisi Oso, has declared readiness of the Agency to correct the chaotic situation of Lagos Urban Spaces caused by the people in the informal business sector.

Tpl. Oso, who made the disclosure during his appearance on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 FM, Star Radio 101. 5 FM and Bond Radio 92.9 FM respectively, stated that the indiscriminate placement of wares as well as encroachment on setbacks and incidental open spaces by the Informal Business Sector operators without regularisation with LASPEMA, will no longer be tolerated.

He said one of the ways to curb the infractions caused by the activities of the sector is through the issuance of ground permits in line with the State’s Urban and Regional Planning Law 2015 as amended.

“In the amended Urban and Regional Planning Law 2015′, Section ‘2’ Subsection (e) of the Law states that: The power for the determination of the location of infrastructural facilities and centres of economic activities in the State resides with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, from where LASPEMA derives her authority”, he said.

While maintaining that the Agency will remain undaunted in ensuring that sanity returns to Lagos Urban Space, Tpl. Oso promised to hold more stakeholder engagements to continue educating and enlightening the informal business sector on the need to register and regularise their businesses with the Agency.

The General Manager also advised all stakeholders and operators in the sector to work hand in hand with the Agency to make the Greater Lagos vision a reality.

He informed all stakeholders and interested persons to download the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP & UD) App from Google Play Store to know more about the Agency or contact the Agency through its hotline – 08026447595 or Social Media Handles; Instagram: @laspemaagency1 or Facebook: Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency LASPEMA for inquiries.
