Lagos State Government has officially commissioned a block of newly constructed classrooms at Africa Bethel Primary School, Ota-Ona, Ikorodu. The commissioning ceremony highlighted the state government’s continued commitment towards improving access to qualitative education across the state.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Shittu expressed his sincere appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, for his contribution to the education sector in the state.

“This building here not only represents a physical structure but a promise kept – one that will impact the learning experience and future of countless pupils in Ikorodu,”, he said.

He explained that his generous donation, commitment and dedication to the development of basic education were a welcome development as it aligned with the broader objectives to rehabilitate, renovate, and construct education infrastructure, reinforcing the pledge of the board to “Leave No Child Behind.”

“Your benevolence and investment towards the future of our children is commendable, and it aligns perfectly with our collective goal of providing inclusive, equitable, and qualitative education”.

He saluted Hon. Adeshina for his commitment and dogged determination to leave a lasting legacy behind even after service to the state.
Shittu opined that the generation of pupils we have now is very impressionable; hence, parents as well as guardians must be very proactive and intentional with how they are raised and ensure they strive to put in the work required to raise well-rounded individuals who will be future leaders.

The Lasubeb boss extolled the initiatives of Governor Sanwo-Olu in the areas of education and technology, which were crucial to his administration as exemplified by the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda of the State.

He thanked Hon. Adeshina, on behalf of the state government, education family, and APC party, and wished him well in his future endeavours, even as he prepares to leave office.

He also urged teachers and staff of Africa Bethel Primary School to maximise the use of the new facilities to support teaching and inspire their learners. While encouraging the Pupils too to take ownership of the classrooms, care for them, and strive for academic excellence.

Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Development Area, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, explained that the four-classroom building was built out of necessity to save lives, stressing that the place used to be in a deplorable state and not fit or conducive for learning before now.

The newly commissioned block of classrooms is expected to significantly improve the learning environment by reducing overcrowding, enhancing ventilation, and fostering a more stimulating academic atmosphere for pupils.

The event drew stakeholders from the education, government, and private sectors as well as community leaders who gathered to express their gratitude and appreciation to visionary Leader Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The ceremony came to a close with a renewed call for continued collaboration among local governments, community stakeholders, and public institutions to collectively uplift the standard of basic education in the state for the upcoming generation by striving to emulate another promise kept.

He enjoined the staff of Africa Bethel Primary School to maximise the use of the new facilities to support teaching and inspire their learners while encouraging the Pupils too to take ownership of the classrooms, care for them, and strive for academic excellence.
