A 21-year old house maid, Rose Mary Peter, has been arrested for allegedly arranging with robbers and stealing N30m jewelries belonging to her madam, Mrs. Agatha Udorie.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident took place on 11th December, 2017, at Onikepo Akande Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, where the victim resided.

It was gathered that after the maid had committed the offence, she fled and went into hiding. Among the items stolen were gold, diamond and other expensive earrings and chains worth the said amount.

The robbery was reported to the operatives of FSARS. Since then the operatives had been on her trail and eventually arrested the suspect at an undisclosed location. From there she was brought to the Police Command, Lagos.

Police sources said that the suspect admitted that she committed the crime and had mentioned other suspects involved who were said to be at large. But the police did not state if any of the stolen items was recovered from her.

Rose Mary was found culpable and charged before the Ikeja Magistrates court for conspiracy and stealing.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwaogwu, did not oppose her bail but asked the court to use its discretion if the court wanted to grant her bail because other suspects were still at large.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted her bail in the sum of N2.5m with two sureties in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 6th August, 2018.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the defendant was not the only person engaged as house maid that had been linked with such act in the recent past.

At the same Ikeja Magistrates court, one Happiness Denis, was equally arraigned for allegedly stealing her boss jewelries worth N47m and escaped before she was later arrested and charged to court.

And it appeared that some of the house maids employed nowadays have mindset to loot their employers and many have suffered huge losses in the hands of maids.
