Man, 20, Arraigned For Stealing Woman’s ATM Card & Siphoning N11m From Bank Account

A 20-year old man, Matthew Taiwo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing the ATM card belonging to a woman, Taibat Jimoh and withdrawing N11m from her First Bank account. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 26th September, 2025, in Ikotun area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large, went to the place where the complainant kept her First Bank ATM card, made away with it, withdrew the whole money and escaped.
However, when the complainant later discovered what happened, she reported the matter to the Police at Ikotun Division. The Police moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the suspect at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Matthew Taiwo ‘m’ and others at large, on the 26/09/2025 at about 0600hrs, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing First Bank ATM card belonging to One Taibat Jimoh ‘f and withdrawing the sum of Eleven Million Naira and thereby committed an offfence contrary to and punishable under Section 325 of Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Matthew Taiwo ‘M’ on same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal Eleven Million Naira (N11,000,000.00) property of Taibat Jimoh ‘f, through her First Bank ATM card and thereby commited an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 17th November, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
