A 21-year old man, Okwudilichukwu Abugara, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing 2,000 pieces of laptop batteries worth N38.5m belonging to New Creation Technologies at computer village in Ikeja.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between July, 2023 and June, 2024, at the company’s office, where the items were kept.

The whole thing got exposed after the company carried out an internal audit of their products and discovered that the laptop batteries were missing and the suspect, Abugara, was asked to explain what happened but he was unable to do so.

The matter was reported to the Police. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing laptop batteries. And during interrogation, he was still unable to give satisfactory responses.

The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, he pleaded not guilty..

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail with sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
