A 21-year old man, Onyeka Ubaka has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly engaged his 15-year old lover in sex and impregnated her in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ubaka, has been arrested for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life Imprisonment.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the Prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 3rd May, 2023, for report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
The incident happened at Mosolashi Street, Ilasamaja area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, Ubaka, who resides at Temitope Street, Ilasamaja with the victim, reportedly lured her into having sex and she became pregnant after several months.
However, trouble started after the victim became sick and a pregnancy test was conducted on her. The test was positive and when she was asked who was responsible, she mentioned Ubaka.
When the victim’s mother confronted Ubaka, he claimed responsibility and wanted both families to resolve the matter peaceful but it failed. The victim’s mother reported the matter to the Police claiming that Ubaka defiled her under aged daughter and Impregnated her.
The Police arrested him and transferred the matter to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for Investigation. There he admitted that he was responsible for the pregnancy but it was not a case of rape.
However, the Police found him culpable because the victim is still a minor and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
