Man, 22, Lands In Trouble For Engaging Electrician On Illegal Connection Resulting To Electrocution

A 22-year old man, Espine Quorch, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for engaging an electrician, Seni Akinmola to climb an Ikeja Electric pole for illegal connection and the electrician got electrocuted in the process. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 1st January, 2025, at 3 Education Close, Unilag Estate Isheri Magodo area of Lagos, where the suspect resides.

 

According to the Police, the suspect engaged the deceased for an illegal connection. He climbed the pole but while on top of the pole, he got electrocuted.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Division and the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct, which caused the death of the deceased.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

COUNT 1: “That you, ESPINE QUORCH ‘M’ on the 1″ day of January, 2025, at about 1400hrs at No. 3 Education Close, Unilag Estate Isheri Magodo Lagos within Ikeja Magisterial District, did recklessly endanger the life of one Seni Akinmola (decease) by procuring him to climb Ikeja Electric PLC, Electric pole in a very dangerous and unsafe manner, which caused his death by electrocution and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 224(b) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, ESPINE QUORCH ‘M’ on the date time and place within aforementioned magisterial district, did procure one Seni Akinmola (deceased) to unlawfully and illegally and without authorization climb Ikeja Electric PLC, Electric pole in a very dangerous and unsafe manner, which caused his death, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 405 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT III: “That you, ESPINE QUORCH ‘M’ on the same date time and place within aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully procure one Seni Akinmola (deceased) to unlawfully and illegally, and without authorization climb Ikeja Electric PLC, Electric pole in a very dangerous and unsafe manner, which caused his death, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 252 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT IV: “That you, ESPINE QUORCH ‘M’ on the same date time and place within aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully interfere Ikeja Electric PLC, Electric pole by procuring Seni Akinmola (deceased) to unlawfully disconnect, meddle and temper by climbing Ikeja Electric PLC, electric pole and electricity installation and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 340 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
