A Court in Lagos has ordered the remand in prison custody of a 24-year old man, who was allegedly caught having sex with his neighbour’s 2-year baby in Ajao Estate area of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Leo Ikeagwu Street, Ajao Estate area of Lagos, where the defendant, Donald Chisom Ume resides.

The man’s remand followed after he was reportedly caught in the act and handed over to the Police and he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court presided by Chief Magistrate, Mr. K.O. Ogundare.

The defendant, Donald allegedly took the victim, whose parents were living next to his compound into his apartment, removed her pant and penetrated her.
The mother was said to have gone to look for the baby; traced her to Donald’s apartment only to discover that her private part was tampered with and injured in the process. She was said to have raised alarm and subsequently reported the matter to the Police. The Police then arrested the man, Donald and later charged before the Court for defilement.

The prosecutor, Edet Akadu, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the victim was a minor.
The Court remanded Donald in prison custody without an option of bail and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 9th October, 2019, when the DPP’s advice may be ready.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the matter may be transferred to the High Court for trial if the DPP finds the man culpable and recommends that he should be tried for defilement. He may spend several years in prison custody if he is tried and found guilty of defilement of a minor before the Court.
