A 26-year old man, Rafiu Nafiu, has been arrested in Lagos State after he was rescued from jumping into the lagoon on a failed suicide mission and remanded in custody.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Nafiu, was rescued by Police operatives after he went to the Third Mainland Bridge on 16th May, 2023 and attempted to jump into the lagoon over an undisclosed trauma.
However, while he had prepared to commit suicide, before he would jump into the lagoon the Police team, which noticed his mission immediately intervened and rescued him.
He was taken to the station for interrogation over his conduct by attempting to kill himself; he explained his frustration and insisted that it was better for him to die.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M. A. Adegbaye, granted him bail and ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was expected to undergo counselling before the next adjournment date.

  1. If actually the boy wants to suicide he can do it with out any bodys notice. What is the reason of rescue in some body who wants to commit suicide and put him in prison. Why can’t you allow the person to deit and go in peace. The law isn’t fear.
