A 30-year old man, Wasiu Abdulkareem, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering his wife, Adeola Oshoba, by inflicting injury on her face during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in July 2025, at Olusola Street, Agodo Egbe, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect and the complainant had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter which led to exchange of words and later degenerated to a physical fight between them.
During the fight, the suspect allegedly inflicted injuries on her face and body, which caused her bodily harm and she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Wasiu Abdulkareem ‘m’, sometime in the month of July 2025, at No. 26, Olusola Street, Agodo Egbe, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault your wife, one Adeola Oshoba ‘f’ by inflicting injuries on her face and body, which caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
