A 30-year old man, Chukwudi Anyanwu, has landed in Police net in Lagos after he allegedly lured a 13-year old girl and had carnal knowledge of her.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Thomas Animashaun Street, Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect has been arrested.

The Police alleged that the suspect between January and May, 2021, lured the girl to his apartment and engaged her in sex romp before he allowed her to go.

However, the alleged rape later got exposed and was reported to the Police in the area and then Anyanwu was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation.

During investigation, Anyanwu reportedly admitted that he slept with the girl but with her consent on two different occasions as alleged and did not rape her as claimed by the Police.

However, considering the age of girl as a minor, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court.
When he arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Ajibade, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s report without an option of bail.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while the defendant will remain in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice in order to determine the jurisdiction.

The matter was adjourned till 9th August, 2021, for the availability of the report of the DPP’s advice, which may likely lead to the transfer of the matter to the High Court for trial.
