Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), Yaba, Lagos State, have arrested a 30-year old man, Oleniju Anthony, over the death of a 69-year old woman, Josephine Makanjuola, by allegedly strangling her to death during squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Chris Ngobi Street, Ikotun area of Lagos State.
According to Police sources, the suspect, Anthony, had a quarrel with the deceased over an undisclosed matter and in the process, he held her by the neck and she just slumped and died.
When she was taken to the undisclosed hospital, the doctors merely certified her dead and her corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports while the matter was reported to the Police.
The Police trailed and eventually arrested the suspect, Anthony and then transferred him to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation over the alleged murder.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found the suspect, Anthony, culpable and subsequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrates Court for murder.
However, when he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre without an option of bail pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 15th November, 2022, for the report of the DPP to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
