A 33-year old man, Lukman Akinteju, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for stabbing his elderly neighbour, Adeniyi Yusuf, with a broken bottle in Lagos State for not greeting him in the morning.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Presiding Magistrate,  Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, of the Ejigbo Magistrate Court, who found Lukman guilty on two-count charge and sentenced him accordingly.
The convicted Lukman Akinteju had pleaded guilty before the Court and stated that he used the bottle to stab the victim, Yusuf, on his ear and hand because he did not greet him when he saw him in the morning.
The incident happened at Isolo Road, Egbe area of Ikotun, Lagos, where they reside.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. The Police then arrested and detained him at the station for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, Lukman admitted before the Police that he actually committed the alleged offence because Yusuf saw him in the morning and did not greet him.
He was found culpable and subsequently charged before the Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and assault.
He pleaded guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, presented the facts of the matter before the Court and asked the Court to sentenced him accordingly since he pleaded guilty to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit similar crime in the future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Dosumu, found him guilty as charged and sentenced accordingly.
