A 41-year old man, Mr. Nonso Amaefule, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly fondling the breasts of his neighbour’s 13-year old girl, inserting finger into her private part and defiling her in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ajegunle Street, Onipanu area of Ilupeju, Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect, Amaefule, was said to have lured the girl into sex by fondling her breasts and inserting finger in her private part, which caused the victim to become confused and unable to resist him.
He reportedly forcefully penetrated her on the floor of his room in their compond when her parents were not around.
The victim later regained her senses and revealed what happened to her parents and the matter was reported to the Police at Ilupeju Division.
The suspect, Amaefule, was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
And during interrogation, he denied the allegation of defilement while the survivor alleged her pants were forcefully removed and forcefully had sex with her.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for statutory rape under the Criminal Laws of the State, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
