Man, 42, Recruits & Promotes Self To Inspector In Nigeria Police

A 42-year old man, Orus Seyefa, has been arrested for recruiting  and promoting himself to the rank of Inspector in the Nigeria Police to enable him extort money from members of the public in Lagos State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Seyefa, was caught around Orile area of Lagos with full Police uniform, which he wore and attached the rank of an Inspector while performing an illegal duty on the road including extortion from motorists.
However, he ran out of luck after the Police Monitoring Team from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, suspected and accosted him to know if he was actually a Police officer but he was unable to properly identify himself.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Provost’s Office at SCID for interrogation and he confessed that he was actually the one that recruited himself into the Nigeria Police and equally promoted himself to the rank of Inspector in order to enhance his operations.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrates Court for impersonation.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatunbosun, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned till 11th August, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
