Man, 46, Sent To Prison For Assaulting Wife & Daughter During Public Brawl

A 46-year old man, Kelvin Ibo, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly displaying his boxing prowess on his wife, Oluchi, by engaging her in a public fight, throwing away her pot of stew, beating her mercilessly and in the process injuring their 16-year old daughter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ikosi-Ketu area of the state, where they reside.
He has been charged before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife and injuring his daughter.
According to the Police, the man had a disagreement with his wife over an undisclosed matter and in the process, he assaulted her and their daughter. He then threw away the stew she made and damaged her property before the matter was reported to the Police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donjour Perezi, told the Court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on 30th January, 2023, in the afternoon by 2.00pm at their family residence and his wife, Oluchi, went to the Police and reported that her husband had been abusing her physically and emotionally since 2020.
The prosecutor stated: “The defendant physically assaulted his wife, inflicted injury on their 16-year-old daughter and in the process of beating them, he poured away a pot of stew being prepared by the wife and broke a standing mirror valued at N150,000”.
Mr. Perezi said the offences contravened Sections 135, 173 and 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 as Section 137 of the Law prescribes a seven-year jail term for anyone found guilty of treating children indecently.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O Tanimola, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the matter till 3rd May, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
