Man, 48, Arrested With 27 Stolen Motorcycles & Forged Plate Numbers Worth N8m

A 48-year old man, Yomi Fasomi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing 27 different brands of motorcycles with forged plate numbers suspected to have been stolen belonging to Emeka Samson and other victims across the state. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Fasomi, was apprehended with the motorcycles and plate numbers worth the said amount at Cappa bus stop, Oshodi area of Lagos, where the Police operatives from the Tactical Squad accosted and arrested him with the exhibits.

 

According to the Police, the suspect was accosted on the highway during routine monitoring in the area and he was unable to explain how he bought the motorcycles and forged plates numbers. He was subsequently arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Yomi Fasomi ‘m’ and others at large, between 1st April, 2024 -30th  May, 2024 at about 0900pm at Cappa bus stop, Oshodi Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”1

 

COUNT II: “That you, Yomi Fasomi ‘m’ and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal 27 pieces of motorcycle of different brand valued at Eight million, four hundred thousand Naira (N8,400,000.00), property of Emeka Samson ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

COUNT III:”That you, Yomi Fasomi ‘m’ and others now at large, between January  2024 – 30 ^ (th) May, 2024 at the same time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession 27 pieces of motorcycles of different brands suspected to have been stolen without giving satisfactory account of them and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 329(a)(b)(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

COUNT IV:”That you, Yomi Fasomi ‘m’ and others now at large, at the same time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to forge 27 pieces of motorcycle plate numbers, which had no legal documents and thereby committed an offence contrary to the provisions of Section 363 of the Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
