Man, 49, Docked In Court Over Alleged Obtaining Of N25m Under False Pretence, Stealing In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 49-year old man, Shoyemi Kazeem, before the Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos over alleged conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

The defendant was arraigned in Charge No: MIK/ /2026 between the Commissioner of Police versus Shoyemi Kazeem.

The case came up before Magistrate Mrs. O. Kasunu.

The Prosecutor, SP Phillip Ademigbuji, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on 9th March, 2026 at Ikorodu, Lagos State, within the Ikeja Magisterial District.

According to the charge sheet filed by the Police from the Command Monitoring Unit, the defendant and others now at large were alleged to have conspired to commit felony.

Count one stated that Shoyemi Kazeem and others now at large on the said date and place did conspire together to commit felony to wit obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count two stated that Shoyemi Kazeem and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did obtain the sum of Twenty Five Million Naira (N25,000,000) with the pretence that he wanted to use the money to purchase a Toyota Camry 2014 model for one Ogundimu Ibraheem Dipo, a representation he knew to be false, contrary to and punishable under Section 314 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count three stated that Shoyemi Kazeem and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did steal the sum of Twenty Five Million Naira (N25,000,000), property of one Ogundimu Ibraheem Dipo, contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge was prepared by the Police and filed by the Command Monitoring Unit, with ASP Bright Omokaro as one of the officers involved in the case file.

After the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, SP Phillip Ademigbuji, did not oppose bail but asked the court to fix a date for trial to enable the Police prove the allegations against the defendant.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mrs. O. Kasunu granted the defendant bail with two sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The Magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri Town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned for hearing.

The complainant, Ogundimu Ibraheem Dipo, had alleged that the defendant collected the sum of N25,000,000 from him under the pretext of purchasing a Toyota Camry 2014 model for him, but allegedly failed to purchase the vehicle or refund the money.

The Police said investigation is ongoing and the defendant will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

However, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court of competent jurisdiction.
