Man, 55, Docked Over Attempt To Strangle Wife Inside Bedroom

A 55-year old man, Ifeanyi Akachukwu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his wife, Chioma Akachukwu, in a squabble and attempting to strangle her having knocked off her tooth inside his bedroom at night.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Salvation Army Street, Oke Afa area of Lagos, where they reside.
The man was alleged to have dragged the wife into his room where they had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter. And in the process, the man, Ifeanyi, gave her fist blows and knocked off her tooth while attempting to strangle her before she was rescued by their neighbours.
The matter was reported to the Police at the SCID, Yaba. The man was arrested and then detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct on the wife.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
