Man, 58, Docked For Demolishing Another Man’s House & Selling Materials As Scrap

Police operatives from Oke-Odo Division of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 58-year old man, Afolabi Adewale, for allegedly demolishing another’s man’s 10-room building and selling damaged materials as scrap after the dastardly act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd April, 2024, at Cele Close, Aboru area of Lagos, where the building belonging to Ibrahim Olasunkanmi is located.
It was not yet confirmed if the building in question was in dispute and why he chose to demolish it unlawfully and in a crude manner without the consent of the owner or legal process.
The action has landed him in trouble as he has been arrested and charged for malicious damage and stealing.
According to the Police, he hired hoodlums, invaded the building, demolished it and sold the materials including roofing sheets, planks, aluminum, burglary protectors, electrical equipment worth N3.6m.
The matter was reported to the Police. He was then arrested detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct and he admitted to have done so over undisclosed reasons.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged conduct, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Evelyn Ehieniua, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.A. Adegbaye, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
