Man, 60, Batters DPO At Police Station Over Arrest
MICHAEL AKINOLA

The Divisional Police Officer attached to Alagbado, CSP Yaya Mohammed, had a nasty experience after a 60-year old man, Adeshina Taiwo, summoned courage, attacked and dared him over detention in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Mr. Taiwo was said to have committed an undisclosed offence, was arrested and brought to the Police Station for him to be detained and prosecuted.
But Mr. Taiwo insisted that he did not commit any offence, adding that he was just being harassed and intimidated by the Police unjustly.
However, when he realised that he was about to be detained, he became violent, reportedly attacked officers on duty at the Police counter and they contacted the DPO. The DPO, CSP Mohammed, then reportedly came out from his office to find out what was the problem.
It was gathered that Mr. Taiwo did not give the DPO any space to know what happened; he was said to have descended on him, attacked and used Shisha bottle to inflict injury on CSP Mohammed in the process.
Mr. Taiwo was later subdued after other Police officers at the station mobilised and eventually held him.
After interrogation, he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged assault on the DPO and other officers including two female officers, Kudirat Salawu and Helen Etute, who Mr.Taiwo chased out with iron rod from the Station.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Mr. Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since Taiwo pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Jedisola Adeyemi, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2019.
