A Lagos popular pastor, Rev Segun Babatunde, has been defrauded after he fell into the trick set up by 75-year old Ajibola Idejiyo, who obtained the whopping sum of N2m from him under false pretence.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at FESTAC Town, Lagos where Babatunde met Pa Idejiyo.

It was gathered that Rev Babatunde had offered spiritual assistance to Idejiyo and in turn Idejiyo promised to give him some portions of land for the expansion of his church.

Pa Idejiyo told Babatunde that he had an acre of land at Atan area of Lagos and asked him to bring a paltry sum N2m to process the documents and thereafter he will hand them over to him.

Rev Babatunde was taken to the said land to verify and ensure that the land belonged to him before he made the payment.
However, after payment, Idejiyo escaped with the money, went into hiding and cut off communication with Babatunde.

When Rev Babatunde went back to the land, he was told that the land did not belong to Idejiyo and that he must have used the land to dupe Babatunde.

The alleged fraud was reported to the police. The police trailed, eventually arrested Idejiyo and detained him at the police station.
During interrogations, he reportedly confessed that he had no land there as he had claimed before and had spent Babatunde’s money. He asked to be given some time to refund the money.

He was charged before the Ikeja Magistrates court for conspiracy and fraud.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Peter Nwaongwu did not oppose his bail.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted Idejiyo bail in the sum of N600,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 20 July, 2018.
