Man Arrested For Forging Dead Man’s Signature To Perfect His Will & Claim Property

A 56-year old man, Orimison Esomojumi, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly forging a dead man’s signature in order to perfect his will and claim the deceased property.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Sonibi Street, Alapere area of Lagos.
According to Police sources, the late Okoye Mike died, left some properties behind but prepared his will on how his properties will be shared to beneficiaries.
The suspect, Esomonumi, secretly altered the will to his benefit by forging the signature of the deceased to enable him to inherit large portion of the properties, which eventually backfired.
The alleged forgery was reported to the Commissioner of Police Strike Team; he was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over the alleged offence.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable for the alleged offence and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, moved a motion asking the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and their addresses verified.
He was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 5th May, 2023, for mention.
