A 27-year old man, Hammed Tijani has been arrested for attempting to commit suicide at the police station after his motorcycle was seized by the police in Lagos.

The incident happened at the entrance of Isolo Police Station where Tijani ran under a moving bus that was taking his seized motorcycles to the Task Force office at Oshodi for permanent seizure.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that once any motorcycle was taken to the Task Force office at Oshodi, that it was the end as the owner will never retrieve such again in line with the Law of Lagos State. It was what Tijani concluded after he realised that his bike was among those being taken to the Task Force office.

Tijani then decided to run into the bus in order to kill himself having realised that he will have to lose the bike which was his only source of earning a living. However, luck was on his side and he was rescued unhurt.

He was then arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates court for attempting to kill himself.

He pleaded not guilty.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Teluwo granted him bail.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale did not oppose his being granted bail.
However, Tijani was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

P.M.EXPRESS asked Tijani why he wanted to kill himself and he said that he was determined to die to end all his sufferings on earth at once. He said he was working and making progress until at some point his business collapsed and he did not want to commit crime. He further explained that he had to get the bike in order to be making some money at least to be eating until he can get a better work.

Tijani said that he pleaded with the police officers but they refused saying that some of the riders attacked and damaged their patrol vehicle. He denied being among those that attacked the police and was pushed to attempt to kill himself when he realised that his bike was among those loaded to be moved down to Oshodi for permanent seizure.
