A 29-year old man, Otega John, has been arrested for burgling a popular church in Lagos and carting away musical equipment worth millions of Naira.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Mercy and Victory Christian Church located at Mercy City Street in Ikotun where the church is located.
It was gathered that the church had organized a programme which John monitored during the day and knew that reasonable amount of money was realized at the event. But he did not know that the money realized was taken away from the church after the service.
Early in the morning, the man went to the church, broke into it but did not find the money any longer. He then carted away the church musical equipment and escaped with his other accomplices now at large.
When the church management discovered that the church was burgled and the equipment carted away, they reported the matter to the Ikotun Police Division. The police went into action and arrested John while his other accomplices were still at large.
After investigation, the Police found him culpable and he was charged before Ejigbo court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, did not oppose his being granted bail but asked the court to use its discretion to enable the defendant to come for trial in the interest of justice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, ordered him remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter till 7th February, 2019, when the issue of bail will be determined.
