Man Burgles Church To Steal Offering Money In Lagos

A 28-year old man, Darlington Emeka arrested for breaking into a church has confessed that he burgled the church after he saw huge sum of money dropped in the offering box during service and he attempted to steal it.
The incident happened at Christ Image Assembly church located at Abraham Akintola Street,Onipetesi Estate in Mangoro Area of Lagos. Ebonyi state born Emeka was arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court with felony by breaking into a place of worship in the night.
He admitted and pleaded guilty and said he actually attempted but missed the target because he did not find the money before he was arrested.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Emeka broke into the church after he monitored the church service where substantial amount of money was realized and kept into the offering box. He reportedly went in the night and broke the church keys and moved to the box but did not find any money there again.
It was while he was contemplating on what to do inside the church when the security men saw him and raised alarm, he was apprehended, beaten mercilessly and handed over to the police at Shasha division.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered, at the station, he confessed that he broke into the church in an attempt to steal money but when he went in, he did not find the money where it was kept during the day.
He was charged with the alleged offence and he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr N. Simon asked the court for short adjournment to enable him to present the fact for sentence.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. Akeem Fashola ordered that Emeka should be remanded in prison custody and adjourned for fact and sentence.
