Man Charged For Robbing With Toy Gun In Lagos

The police have arrested a 24-year-old suspected armed robber, Lukman Odu who uses plastic toy gun to rob innocent people of their valuables in Lagos.

He was charged with unlawfully possession of toy gun and stealing with criminal intent from where he was remanded in prison.

Odu was arrested at Sasi compound in Lagos Island after he used the toy gun to rob one of the tenants, Onyeman Nwangbata of the sum of N350,000 after he pointed the gun at him.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Odu targeted  Nwagbata and sneaked into his room apartment pointing the gun on his head and ordered him to bring the money he had with him.

He robbed him of the money and handsets. He was arrested in the process of escaping.

Our correspondent gathered from the victim that, while the suspect  pointed the gun to him, he cooperated but was suspecting that the gun might not be a real gun.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that while Odu was about to escape with the money, the victim picked courage and raised alarm and he started running, but he was pursued, and with the help of the residents, Odu was apprehended.

When the gun was recovered from him, it was discovered that it was a toy gun and he had some native charms on him.

The money was recovered from him and he was handed over to the Lagos State Anti-robbery Squad, SARS who detained him at the police headquarters in Ikeja.

During interrogation, Odu confessed that he had never used real gun to rob except the toy gun and the native charms.

He was arraigned before Ikeja Magistrate’s court where he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 9 March 2017.
