Man Docked For Allegedly Hacking Oba Oniru’s Facebook Account, Defraud Professor N500k

A middle aged man, Agbolade Olajuwon Agbolahan, has landed in big trouble, for allegedly hacking the Facebook account of the Oniru of Iruland, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal (Abisogun II), and using same to defraud a professor of the sum of N500,000.

Owing to the above alleged heinous acts, a Lagos Federal High Court, has remanded the alleged hacker, Agbolahan, in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).

His remand was sequel to his plea of not guilty, to the charges slammed on him by the men of Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos.

PSFU through its prosecutor, Mr. Slyvester Azubuike, had dragged the alleged hacker before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa led-court on two counts charge of hacking into the Monarch’s Facebook account and obtaining by false pretence.

The prosecutor told the court that the alleged hacker had sometimes in April 2022, hacked into Oba Lawal’s Facebook account, and using same to defraud one Professor Adesoji Adelaja of the sum of N500,000.

The defendant’s alleged fraudulent acts, according to the prosecutor, are contrary to sections 22(2)(b)(ii) and 22(3) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.

Though, the defendant denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecutor asked for a trial date, while also urged the court to remand him in the NCoS’ custody.

But the defendant’s counsel, Eyitayo Ogunnubi, informed the court that his client’s bail application has been filed and served on the prosecutor. But the prosecutor, Azubuike, while admitting being served with the bail application, asked the court for a short date to file his response.

Following the submissions made by counsel, Justice Lewis-Allagoa, while adjourning the matter till July 20, for hearing of the bail application, ordered that the alleged hacker be remanded in the NCoS’ custody.

Count One Of The Charges Against The Alleged Hacker Reads: “that you Agbolade Olajuwon Agbolahan and others at large, between April 2022 in Lagos, within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, hacked into Kabiyesi HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan (Abisogun II) the Oniru of Iru Kingdom by creating a Facebook account with the name HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan  (Abisogun II) which you fraudulently impersonates and pretended to be him, obtain from Professor Adesoji Adelaja the sum of N500,000.00 through Bank account no 2084126038 with account name Omotayo Mayodele Olubido, who you claim is your Personal Assistant and by this conduct, you thereby committed an offense contrary to section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.”
