A man, Salisu Ahmed, has demonstrated unusual courage in Lagos State as his motorcycle was impounded, taken to the Task Force and he went to the Police Station and stole another seized motorcycle inside the premises as a replacement for his own.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Idimu Police Station, where the Police impounded Ahmed’s motorcycle.
According to Police sources, Ahmed’s motorcycle was seized by the Police and transferred to the Task Force office at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Angered by the seizure by the Police, Ahmed went to the Police Station in the afternoon around 1pm, broke the chain and key where other seized motorcycles were parked and stole one out of the motorcycles.
While he was escaping, a Police Inspector, Jacob Salami, accosted him and attempted to arrest him but he brutally attacked and assaulted the Police Inspector before other Police officers overpowered and detained him at the station.
During interrogation, Ahmed told the Police that he went there to steal the motorcycle because the Police had seized his own after he pleaded with them to no avail.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for assault, malicious damage and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the state.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a short adjournment for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail and ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 9th May, 2023, for mention.
