The arrest of a 38-year old man, Gabriel Essiah, may have proved the rumour that some people actually make demands to buy women’s sanitary pads and pants for ritual purposes.

Essiah will have to tell the Court why he was picking women’s used sanitary pads from the dustbin inside an estate in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Essiah was caught at G. Cappa Estate in Ikeja area of Lagos where he was busy picking the pads for an undisclosed purpose.
He was subsequently arrested after he went to a dustbin within the estate, picked some used sanitary pads said to belong to a lady simply known as Olubukola and tried to escape.
However, the owner of the dumped pads saw and confronted him to know what he had wanted to use the pads for and who sent him to do so but he was unable to explain. The lady then raised alarm which attracted other neighbours in the estate.
He was subsequently handed over to the police at Olosan Division where he reportedly confessed that he had a buyer who he wanted to sell them to.
The used pads were recovered from him and the police later charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
He pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Inspector Kenrich, did not oppose his being granted bail but asked the court to give date for hearing.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. T.A. Ojo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 8th April, 2019.
For some time now, women have been panicking over the wild rumour going on across the nation that their pants and used sanitary pads were being picked for money ritual purposes. Some people did not believe it while others claimed that there was no scientific proof that such could happen. But the recent action by Essiah and few others in different places across the country might be passing some messages.
