A businessman, Raphael Chima, has filed a divorce suit before the Court against his wife, Joy, for instilling fear in him and constantly beating him in their matrimonial home in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the man, Raphael, dragged his wife, Joy, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja and asked the Court to dissolve their union because she always beats him.
“My wife physically abuses and harasses me. She slaps me at the slightest chance. She abuses me mentally,” he said.
He revealed that he had no peace of mind in the marriage because of his wife’s beatings as she has instilled fear in him and suppressed him emotionally in their marriage.
An embittered Raphael also told the Court that his wife, Joy, was disrespectful to his parents and has long abandoned their only child and that he has been the one caring for him.
He prayed the Court to dissolve the marriage between him and his wife and grant him custody of their child in order for him to move on with his life.
However,  the respondent, Joy, denied the allegations but did not say much before the Court further adjourned the matter.
The Presiding judge, Dada Oluwaseyi, advised the couple to explore reconciliation options within the period the matter was adjourned to try if they will reconcile probably by the wife promising her husband that she will not beat him any longer.
The matter was adjourned for the report of settlement or hearing.
