A 24-year old man, Mr. Tobi Adeyemi has been arrested for allegedly tricking a lady, Ruth Onovo, and obtaining N400,000 from her under false pretence.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Dele Ara Street in Abaranje, Ikotun area of Lagos where they resided.

It was gathered that Mr. Adeyemi had approached Ruth as a friend and solicited for assistance to support his business with undisclosed promises which he did not fulfill.

However, when it turned it that the Adeyemi did not meet the expectations  of Ruth as a lover on what they had earlier agreed upon, she asked him to return her money but he was unable to do so.

According to Adeyemi, Ruth was his friend but he did not commit himself into getting deeply involved with her in the relationship. He said that he declined making promises he will not be able to keep as she had expected of him and she then started making troubles with him.

Adeyemi admitted that he collected money from her for his business but never stole the money as the police had claimed. He said that he had pleaded with her to give him time to refund the money but she refused.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the complainant, Ruth, went to the police at Ikotun Division and reported that Adeyemi was not her lover but stole her money; he was arrested and taken to the police station.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the police tried to resolve the matter and asked Adeyemi to refund the money but he claimed to have spent it on his business and needed time to raise the money.

The police found him culpable and charged him before Ejigbo Magistrates court for the alleged offence.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, inspector G. Simon did not oppose the bail but asked the court for a short adjournment for trial.
The Presiding Magistrates, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
