Masquerade In Police Net Over Coronavirus

The fight against Coronavirus and the enforcement of the restriction of movement is gaining momentum across Nigeria following the arrest of a masquerade who flouted the sit-at-home directive by the Federal Government.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the masquerade was arrested by the Police at Ijeja area of Abeokuta in Ogun State and detained at the station for prosecution over conduct in public during the stay at home directive.
When the masquerade was taken to the Police Station, it was forced to remove the mask and it was discovered that it was a young man that was inside it. The young man, who Police declined to disclose his name, was asked to write a statement for possible prosecution which he did before some the residents intervened.This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
He said that the colourful masquerade was arrested by the Police for defying the government’s directive on mass gathering. The young man in the masquerade, after being arrested, could not hold back tears after realising the problem he had entered.
Ogun State had effected stay-at-home measures as part of measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus.The masquerade was apprehended after it confronted the Policemen and threatened to deal with them if they dispersed his followers.DSP Oyeyemi said the masquerade was nabbed at Ijeja area of Abeokuta following complaint from residents and the Police acted promptly.Oyeyemi noted that,“Upon the report, Policemen from Ibara Division moved to the area and warned the people to disperse but the masquerade confronted the Policemen and threatened to deal with them if they insisted on dispersing his followers”.“The masquerade was subsequently arrested and taken to the Police Station where he was warned to be law abiding before he was released to a reliable surety” he added.
